Winemaking Process - Crushing the Grapes

If you want to know about wine and wineries, then it is first necessary to learn about the grape. Learning a little history behind grapes and what kind of conditions they grow best in is an important process to learning about wines. Grapes offer excellent health benefits as well. After you have mastered grapes, then you can move on to other parts of the wine-making process.

So what exactly is a grape? It is a round fruit that grows in bunches on a vine. There are a lot of uses for the grape. Grapes are used for things such as making jams and jellies, pressed to make wine, grape oil used to make grape seed extract, turned into grape juice, dried to make raisins and even turned into vinegar. There are a lot of different colors and varieties of grapes too. Seeded and seedless, small and big and of course, the many different colors such as: purple, green, blue, red and pink. Every different variety has a different taste and use. Every different grape makes different flavored wines. Grape growing is done in a vineyard and different grapes can survive in many different locations. Grapes supposedly were first introduced to Europe in 600 B.C. by the Phocaeans. However, because of a pesky bug, grapes did not come to the U.S. until much later.

There are some clear health benefits from consuming grapes. Grape seed extract is reported as having the health benefits of lessening the risk of heart disease, of controlling skin diseases, slowing the ageing process and fighting allergies. Having the grape in a person’s diet has also been shown to aid in proper blood flow by keeping the blood vessels cleaned out and by keeping blood pressure low. Grapes have also been considered as a factor for deterring nerve damage and Alzheimer’s disease. For these facts, it is clear that eating grapes is a very simple way to stay healthy. Many doctors recommend that men and women drink from one to two glasses of wine each night to help with these health issues. Of course, if someone was trying to avoid alcohol, then just eating grapes every day would have about the same effect. Even dried grapes would be a suitable introduction for the system. There are actually three different kinds of dried grape variety; raisins, currants and sultanas. Each type of grape is slightly different.

So now you are ready to learn more about vineyards and wine. The grape is a great fruit to introduce into your diet, whether in the form of just the plain fruit, the dried version or through wines. You might even choose to have your grapes in grape jelly form. Whatever way you choose to eat it, they are great fruits.

There are quite a number of of outstanding wines on the market these days. You can find anything from a White Zinfandel to a beautiful red. However why purchase wine when you can make excellent wines yourself? There are plenty of resources that you can tien to when it comes to making wines.
